Implementing this project, our primary goal was to create two products aimed at enriching ecological and environmental education across a broad range of school subjects and beyond the traditional classroom setting. The first product is a digital platform called "ECOGAMES WITH GREEN PACKS", the second product is the "GREEN GUIDEBOOK" – a guide containing lesson plans aimed at teachers of various subjects. This project also aimed to develop key skills and competencies among both students and teachers through: 1. Working on selected subtopics and organising workshops as part of LTTA ) in natural settings, tailored to the geographic features of the partner regions. 2. Developing competencies in creating digital games. 3. Understanding how to teach outside the traditional classroom. 4. Strengthening communication between teachers and students and exploring the impact of external activities on educational goals. 5. Engaging students in the project through the ETW platform aimed to raise ecological awareness and foster social development, integration, and cooperation at both local and international levels. These goals enabled us to achieve the intended outcomes, enhancing ecological awareness and developing new educational methods.
We applied to carry out this project because we recognised a critical need for a broad range of ecological education, as highlighted by numerous studies and consultations at the European level since 2013. This issue had already been identified earlier by three partners from Turkey, Italy, and Romania, who collaborated on an eTwinning project titled "Ecogames in my Curriculum" and successfully implemented teaching methods using games. The project addresses several significant needs. First, the need for environmental protection, which is critical for the survival of our planet. Second, in response to the need for ecological education, we created two main products: a platform with games for natural science education and a Green Guidebook with lesson plans for integrating ecology into various subjects. These tools aim to attract everybody to eco-learning, bringing them closer to nature. Additionally, the project meets the need for collaboration and rebuilding relationships in the post-pandemic reality, where direct contacts have been limited. Both the process of preparing the project and its outcomes contribute to meeting these important needs, supporting environmental protection and ecological education on a wide scale.
