Objectives

The overarching aim of implementing the project was to catalyze a transformative shift in secondary education, particularly through the empowerment of guidance teachers. Our objective was to equip these educators with the knowledge, skills, and methodologies necessary to not only understand but also effectively champion the principles outlined in the European Green Deal. By enhancing their capacity in areas such as environmental awareness, climate change mitigation, and the promotion of green practices, we aimed to cultivate a cadre of leaders within the educational community. Through this initiative, we sought to foster a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship among students, preparing them for future careers that prioritize ecological responsibility. Moreover, our intention was to spark a ripple effect that would extend beyond the classroom, influencing families and communities to embrace the ideals of the European Green Deal. Ultimately, the project aimed to serve as a catalyst for systemic change within secondary education, propelling us toward a future where environmental consciousness is not only prioritized but also integrated into every facet of society.

Background

The project's primary focus was on addressing the pressing issue of climate change, acknowledging the critical need for action as global temperatures continue to rise, posing severe threats to ecosystems and biodiversity. In response to this urgency, the European Green Deal has emerged as a comprehensive initiative aimed at rallying European nations to confront the climate crisis head-on, employing legal frameworks and setting ambitious targets such as achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Through the implementation of the project, educators were equipped with the tools and resources needed to incorporate climate action into their teaching methodologies. This empowered them to guide students towards environmentally conscious career paths and instil a deeper understanding of the transformative potential inherent in the Green Deal initiatives. By nurturing youth involvement in climate advocacy and education, the project recognizes the crucial role young people play in driving global efforts to combat climate change.
