Objectives

Motivation: (Over)living in a world where social and cultural diversity is still synonymous with stigmas and prejudices, and where discrimination and inequalities are more and more accentuated, is a challenge. Being young means not yet having the experience of a lifetime and being in an intense period of physical and psychological transformation. It means building the foundations for an independent life and defining future plans. It is, therefore, a turbulent phase that requires young people to have a great capacity for adaptation. In addition to all these natural challenges for young people, many of them are also victims of social exclusion, a situation that limits their access to essential goods and services, as well as their opportunities for civic participation, significantly limiting their future plans. Social Problem: Social exclusion of young people, a global problem with serious effects both for young people and for society as a whole. Needs: We identify the following as the main needs in combating their social exclusion -The empowerment of young people, especially young people in a situation of fewer opportunities, by providing them with tools that would allow them to respond to the personal and social challenges they face in the middle of the 21st century. -Promotion of the social and civic participation of young people, so that they may have an active role in the resolution of global problems, namely by participating actively in the fight against social exclusion. -Creating learning opportunities that are complementary to formal education, that are focused on the needs and goals of today's youth and that would be attractive to their participation, especially for young people with fewer opportunities. Idea: The project thus emerged as a way to respond to the social problem and the identified needs. In this sense, the project provided young people with a unique multicultural experience focused on their needs and expectations (non-formal and informal education). The project also promoted learning in a natural environment, making young people aware of the role they should play in the social world, namely, promoting diversity as a way to combat social exclusion through the analogy between examples from the natural world, specifically, the role of bees in promoting biodiversity. Objectives: General: - To combat social exclusion and encourage the active participation of young people in society, namely through activism in the field of promoting social/cultural diversity and biodiversity. Specific: - Promoting the empowerment of young people for adaptability to change (resilience) in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century; - Creation of attractive learning opportunities aligned with the specific needs of today's youth, using non-formal and informal education methodologies; - Awareness-raising of young people and society in general about the problem of social exclusion of young people and its effects both on young people themselves and on communities; -Awareness-raising of young people and society in general to the need to preserve the environment and biodiversity, namely through the protection of one of the main pollinating agents, the bees; -Contribution to the public appreciation of young people, making society in general aware of the potential of young people as agents of change; -Fostering public debate about the barriers imposed on the social inclusion and participation of young people; -Sensitizing policy makers to the need to preserve the environment and biodiversity as a way of ensuring a quality future for current and future youth.
