Objectives

The EU Youth Strategy focuses on three core areas of action: Empower, Connect and Engage. These three areas can be developed with a range of key measures that allow individuals to develop self-empowerment through self-knowledge and recognition of personal traits. Cultivate self-investigation leads us to recognise strong abilities and characteristics that need improvement, and thus, help us to achieve personal power. Personal power by definition is the capacity to balance inner traits, that are seen as good or bad, with social environment. Emotional intelligence and personal power notions are now fundamental features that any individual should carry, not only to flourish in personal life, but also to grow as a better person, to be active in the community, and to develop at professional and academic areas. This project’s idea was to offer participants a variety of opportunities and dynamics to break away from internalized patterns, peer’s judgement and culture, and begin to define themselves by themselves. It is about learning how to be unique and increase autonomy in each individual to overcome some habits that gives the power to others to define us. The programme was built to develop competences required in today’s society and of labour market, easing the journey of young people also in the professional life. The project sets as its main objective improve the level of key competences and emotional and cognitive skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, as well as to promote participation in democratic life in Europe and the labour market and active citizenship. Its specific objectives are directly connected with the specific objectives of Key Action 1, as follow: identify strong and weak sides and how they affect personal and professional life; enhance employability and improve career prospects through the development of self-conscious and creative youngsters; learn and improve youngsters’ intrapersonal life skills, as self-awareness, self-control, self-esteem, self-respect, and self-reflection; Inspire and empower participants to acknowledge and express emotions; foster young people to create authentic connections with themselves and consequently with others; encourage young people to actively engage and participate in their communities, by recognizing their potential impact on society. The project “Personal Power to the People: own your power” brings together a diverse group of partners, representing different perspectives and the specificities of their countries. The topic of Self-Empowerment and Self-Knowledge has different levels of understanding and accomplishment around Europe and this Youth Exchange was sought to bring together partner organisations with a specific expertise on the topic and from countries with distinct cultural, social, economic and religious backgrounds, strengthening the intercultural dimension of the project. Thus, this project aims at fostering the knowledge and experiences of these organisations engaged in research and the promotion of Self-Empowerment and Self-Knowledge among young people, through the exchange of practices, joint reflection and the identification of working tools that can be used and shared when addressing these issues.
