Objectives

We live in a society in constant mutation in which feminism is increasingly taking on a prominent role and countless debates. This movement started at different times and places, having been implemented and propagated by and through different mentalities and cultures. We can denote, without any doubts, its expansion and evolution from its beginning to the present day. As the existence of unequal positions between individuals in society is verified, largely due to the structures that compose it, some social groups find themselves in situations that make them be considered as more privileged and favoured than others, ending up originating a feeling of injustice among members. This issue is called social inequality taking into account the individual, for example, its prestige, income, gender, ethnicity, race and religion. Regarding gender, there is a constant inequality between men and women that, over time, has been the subject of discussion and debate in the progress of a society with gender inequality. Supported by new tools that give them a new voice and strength, women and feminist movements are increasingly emerging from the shadows, presenting themselves with a progressively important role in the development of social, cultural and other policies, a little all over the world, gradually ceasing to be a subject that was still considered by many to be a taboo topic. The project was implemented in Ponte de Lima, in the district of Viana do Castelo, where we received all the participants and realised our activities. There was a calm and smooth atmosphere to approach the topic. During the week of activities about gender equality, our main goal was to show that no matter the different education, gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, language or culture, we all deserve the same rights. We used photography as a tool, since it is a way of expression and communication. The focus was on how the participants can express their thoughts and feelings through imagery/photography. Through art you can make changes in one’s way of seeing the world, it helps to express oneself, share knowledge, be interactive, speak and stimulate self-reflection. Therefore, photography can be part of the development of a person in any topic as it is a form of art. In this project our idea was to connect youngsters from different parts of Europe and share their knowledge, cultures and experiences on the topic. Our main objectives were the following: - To promote gender equality; - To promote women empowerment; - To promote equal opportunities; - To promote equity; - To promote human rights; - To prevent any discrimination based on education, gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, language, culture, disability, age or sexual orientation; - To enhance young people’s active citizenship; - To support individuals by strengthening their skills and capabilities; - To support sustainability. Our project was connected to the Erasmus+ Programme and this specific key action because it was an effective instrument to promote human rights, gender equality and women empowerment, as well as to enhance young people’s active citizenship.
