Objectives

1. REASON: The transition phase between finishing formal education and moving into working life is the most challenging period in a young adult's life. While the young person is still building his identity, full of doubts and insecurities about his future, he is also eager to achieve his independence and find his place in society. There are numerous obstacles facing young people in their transition to adulthood, which have been exacerbated by constant social, political, and, currently, also public health crises. In fact, young people represent a segment of the population at high risk of poverty and social exclusion, leading to serious and irreversible consequences for both young people and society as a whole. According to data from Eurostat (2020), 25.1% of young Europeans and 24.4% of young Portuguese are at risk of poverty and social exclusion, a situation that compromises their access to essential goods and services, such as food, healthcare, access to a job and decent housing, also limiting their active participation in society and their future plans. 2. SOCIAL PROBLEM: Thus, we identify youth poverty and social exclusion as a social problem that is global in scope and has led to serious effects both at the level of individuals and communities, making it urgent to create effective, efficient and sustainable solutions that would allow the eradication of the social problem and its effects. 3. NEEDS: Among the various means of combating poverty and social exclusion, the School is perhaps the most representative, being a place of universal access and that provides the training of the youngest. However, despite ensuring academic training, the school had and still has great gaps in terms of preparing young people to face the challenges of a world in constant change. In this sense, youth organizations and their youth workers (YT) assumed a privileged position in preparing young people to face the obstacles that were being placed before them in the 21st century. Yet, for this work to be truly effective and sustainable, there was a need to: -Skill the TJs, and the organizations themselves, so that they would be constantly updated regarding the most appropriate intervention methodologies to respond to the real needs and expectations of today's young people; -Develop and implement innovative and quality youth work practices in order to respond to emerging challenges; -To increase the responsiveness of TJ and organizations in order to foster an easy and equal access of young people to opportunities for integral development, especially for those with fewer opportunities; -Strengthen the European network of organizations active in the youth field; -Strengthen the recognition of youth work as a privileged means for the empowerment and integral development of young people and that it has effectively contributed to the improvement of their quality of life. 4. IDEA: The project therefore intended to enable the personal, social and professional empowerment of JWs through the creation of learning opportunities in a multicultural environment. Encouraging the sharing of experiences and knowledge among YTs from European organizations active in the youth sector. 5. OBJECTIVES: (a) General: -Combating the problem of poverty and social exclusion of young people. b) Specific: -Training JWs to become capable of strengthening their action with the youngest in terms of their preparation for an independent life and their social inclusion; -To establish current intervention strategies adjusted to the social reality of young people; -To raise the awareness of young people and the community in general to the problems of poverty and exclusion of young people; -To raise the awareness of the community at large to the potential of young people as agents of change, improving the public image of young people and broadening their opportunities for active participation in society; -To raise awareness in the wider community of the importance and potential of working with young people for their holistic development, as well as for generating positive social and economic impacts; -Promote public dialogue (national and international) on the obstacles placed in the way of youth emancipation, in order to contribute to social transformation and irradiation of the problem; -Strengthen the network of European organizations active in the youth sector.
