PROJECT MOTIVATION Over the last few years, there have been numerous European strategies that focus on the issues of youth participation in democratic life. Although addressed to all young people, these strategies emphasise the participation and involvement of young people with fewer opportunities (including those with disabilities), as they are more vulnerable groups with more obstacles and more needs. Although, fundamentally, these groups make themselves heard so that society as a whole is sensitive to their challenges and can support their inclusion, the truth is that they continue to present low participation rates, especially if we look at alternative forms (for example, participation in campaigns or activism; participation through digital tools and spaces; volunteering; youth dialogues with decision-makers; citizens' juries, and others.), which has as a consequence their social exclusion (SOCIAL PROBLEM to be solved). Given this reality and because we recognise that there is urgent and fundamental work to be done with young people with disabilities so that they can actively participate in democratic life and, consequently, feel included, this project will be specifically directed to them. NEEDS IDENTIFIED IN THE APPLICATION -Nec. to encourage the adoption of mechanisms for social participation and the influence of civil society (in this case, young people with disabilities) on the elaboration, reformulation and monitoring of public policies to promote profound changes towards a cohesive, inclusive and equitable Europe; -Nec. of providing young people with disabilities the opportunity to get involved and learn to actively participate in democratic life, either by expressing their opinions or by being involved in civic and activist actions; -Nec. of raising awareness of shared values and fundamental European rights, contributing to young people (particularly with disabilities) being able to be an active voice in the fight for the rights of historically excluded groups (including the ones they are part of). SOCIAL PROBLEM The social problem of the project is the social exclusion of youngsters suffering from fewer opportunities (disabilities) due to low levels of participation in democratic life. GENERAL OBJECTIVE Promote the participation of young people with disabilities in democratic life, which will be reflected in their social inclusion. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES - To promote dialogue and cooperation between young people with disabilities and political and social structures (decision-makers, experts, activists, and other citizens with disabilities) and organisations active in working with citizens with disabilities (including young people), allowing the participation of young people in the creation, reformulation and monitoring of current policies; - To empower young people to be able to express their opinions (in a critical, conscious, responsible and informed way) and to engage in civic and activist actions, influencing the decision-making process; - Fostering common European values and empowering fundamental European rights, ensuring a sense of belonging to Europe and compliance with European directives.
