Objectives

By implementing the project, we aimed to enhance young people's skills and competencies in local youth activism and youth policy development by using simulation games as a primary learning method. Our project's objectives focused on both the empowerment of youth and the practical application of policy development mechanisms. Firstly, we sought to explore the landscape of youth activism locally, identifying its various forms, highlighting exemplary cases, and understanding the challenges faced. This exploration was intended to provide a solid foundation for the participants, offering them insights into successful youth activism and the hurdles they might encounter. Secondly, we aimed to educate young people on how to participate in local youth policy development. This involved a deep dive into the mechanisms available for youth participation, equipping participants with the knowledge necessary to navigate and influence policy-making processes effectively. We also wanted to establish connections between young people, youth activists, and local youth policy stakeholders. These networks were to foster collaboration and dialogue, ensuring that the voices of young people were heard and considered in policy discussions. A significant focus was also placed on the role-play simulation games method. We aimed to teach participants about these games' structure, specifics, usage, and adaptation for particular needs. By doing so, we intended to provide a hands-on, engaging method for learning about policy development mechanisms. One of our key objectives was to create and conduct new role-play simulation activities. These activities were not just theoretical exercises, but practical experiences in policy development. They were designed to prepare young people for real-world actions and interactions with policy stakeholders, ensuring they were equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. As a tangible outcome of our project, we aimed to collect and disseminate the project's outcomes in the form of a comprehensive manual: https://got-to-act.eu/simulation-game/. This manual was not just a document, but a valuable resource for local young people, activists, and organizations. It offered both theoretical and practical tools on local policy development processes and how young people could be actively involved, ensuring the project's impact extended beyond its duration. Through these objectives, we aimed to empower young people, increase their participation in local policy development, and ultimately ensure that local authorities and state institutions recognized and addressed their interests and needs.
