Objectives

„FolkArt” is a project about inclusion. Through it we wanted to offer more possibilities for young people with fewer opportunities to fight social discrimination of any kind, using traditional music and dance as tools. We discovered the existence of the following issues: - People that are at risk of poverty do not have the necessary resources to travel, not having the opportunity to see new countries, meet new cultures or get trained properly - People with fewer opportunities observed in our and our partners’ organizations have a low self-esteem The needs were identified, which this project will address: - The need to increase their confidence - The need to get in contact with other youth people and their countries’ traditions to increase the level of tolerance and respect of differences - The organization needed volunteers with strong skills in music and dance, that are informed and ready to train other members of our NGOs. We would like to make new strategic partnerships and meet new contacts and reliable partners; also learn new practices and non-formal methods in order to bring solutions to local problems - The local community need to involve people with fewer opportunities, like school abandon or poverty issued in social activities. Also, participants needed to feel free to open-up and express their feelings, which we did through artistic expression and free discussions We made a SWOT analysis of our goal together with our partners: to increase youngsters’ opportunities to fight discrimination through music and dance as inclusion methods. The project had the following objectives: 1. To stimulate the sense of cultural diversity in the European community among the 45 participants for 8 days. 2. To explore the opportunities given by folk culture of 5 countries to break stereotypes and fight discrimination 3. To increase the self-esteem of 45 young people by involving them in 32 activities 4. To strengthen cultural cooperation in the European dimension All the objectives were met, we even consider them over achieved: the participants did enhance their sense of cultural diversity, through the workshops and activities and spread the knowledge in their local communities. The sense of inclusion was strongly felt, beating the stereotypes, self-esteem was developed during more then 32 activities and the cooperation was great!
