Objectives

The project reacts to one of the problems that youth people face today in Europe and it is about the lack of active citizens in the local community. Due to the pandemic situation, young people are actively involved in fewer and fewer civic activities, leading to local organizations having fewer volunteers and fewer activities than before. In a period when active citizenship is important and solidarity and union between people are necessary, we decided to create and implement this Youth Exchange in order to reach young people from our communities. The challenging socio-economic and cultural context that we are all facing lately can have a possible negative effect on young people by developing less and less interest, desire and motivation to discover what is really important in their lives, how to work together in a group and how to be empathetic with other members of society. Thus they may end up watching the world passively or develop antisocial behavioral characteristics that describe impatience, intolerance, and irresponsibility towards society and their jobs. Starting from this idea we followed a series of objectives: 1) Exploring the concept of volunteering, its advantages, and disadvantages, for 24 young people during the implementation period of the project. – The purpose of this objective was to make youngsters be more aware of the concept of volunteering. During various workshops (world cafe, presentations about volunteering in each country, passion walk, presentation of local NGOs about their work, debate workshop) participants discovered that it is not so easy to find information about different volunteer actions, in their country, because many of them are not publicized very well or they don't have platforms to promote their activities. Besides that, the thing that the participants noticed was that the situation is quite similar in all countries. In the process of learning about volunteer actions, the participants had debates about the advantages and disadvantages of volunteering. In this topic, they discovered the benefits of volunteering for their personal and professional life, but also the disadvantages that come such as fatigue, stress, or frustration. During the reflection groups, we had the opportunity to see what they discovered new about this topic. 2) Improving the quality of human resources of 4 youth organizations coming from Romania, Poland, Croatia, and the Czech Republic - one thing that we followed through the implementation of this project was to determine the young people to stay in contact with their sending organizations. We can say that this objective was partially achieved. We say this because an unexpected thing was that during the last preparation meeting for the youth exchange, our partner from Croatia informed us that some of the participants tested positive for COVID. This made it impossible for partners from Croatia to participate, but we supplemented the places with 3 participants from Poland and Romania. For the other participating organizations we saw a beneficial effect. Because the partner organizations are also involved in other additional youth exchanges because each of the partner organizations carries out activities at the local level. We aimed to increase the curiosity of the participants related to the activities of the organizations at the local level, we aimed to create future collaborations between the participants and the organizations. One thing that was observed during the entire project was the fact that the participants who took part in the mobility were much more open to getting involved at the local level and kept in touch with the organizations that sent them. 3) Developing the knowledge, of 24 young people and 4 youth organizations on the opportunities and benefits of Erasmus+ programme and European Solidarity Corps - this was the subject most intensively exploited within the project. This goal we believe was the most satisfying of all. The interest of the participants for new opportunities in relation to what Erasmus means has grown significantly. This was also seen after the participants returned home, as they began to actively look for new opportunities to leave with Erasmus projects, as well as attempts by the participants to get in touch with other former participants. With this objective, one of the reasons we pursued this was to increase the curiosity of young people about the Erasmus Plus programs. We ensured that the teenagers who have not yet had the experience of the Erasmus programs learn and discover as many opportunities as they can have at their disposal. Our objective was to get young people to participate in as many projects as possible, organized by us or our partners, and not only, as well as to promote further in their community of friends about these opportunities. Somehow this objective exceeded our expectations because our local partners from other countries also started to collaborate for other activities.
