We carried to project, from the writing part until this moment, of follow up and coming to the final conclusion of it, because we strongly saw the Conflict field as something that can be understood, prevented and managed, especially in young people’s lives. Since the main people in our team are either youth workers specialized in Conflict management and in journalism and communication, we know from our work and study that discrimination is a conflict relationship that can be studied and understood in a non-formal way in a group setting. So we set up a framework for a Youth Exchange project where 35 young people for 7 countries from Europe would come together from the main need was to understand that both discrimination and conflicts are strongly related to people’s relationship and their connection (or lack of) and so the processes that are involving conflict transformation are desired. So, using conflict transformation as a tool for addressing structural based and social root causes by challenging injustices and restoring relations. We started from the young people needs for this topic and we found out that there is a need, in our target group of youth and on the target groups of our partners from this project, of learning that unsolved conflicts based on discrimination are existing in their communities and the disadvantages that come from avoiding conflicts in this level can lead to extremism and segregation. This is strongly in connection to learn and experiencing a more inclusive perspective from and towards the youth, especially the ones that are part of an already discriminated or excluded group, one of the reason for this being the lack or poor system of educating young people towards equity and inclusion. Some of the reasons why people around the world and also people from our target group are facing discrimination type of conflicts is because there is a communication gap between people from different age, ethnic group, religious beliefs or sexual orientation inside the same community, while Europe is getting more diverse and this topic can be sometimes treated . - Unattainable way of distinguish between competition (which has clear rules and a common goal)and conflict (which has less visible rules and an incompatible goal) The objectives we planned for the COPE project were related to understanding conflict and its relation to discrimination. The ‘idea behind the idea’ was to create a journey for the participants from their outside conflicts that they have with the people around them towards the inner conflicts, the ones within themselves by introducing the discrimination and stereotypes that all of them have countered in some ways. Through this, we enhanced the European values, meaning tolerance, solidarity, diversity through role-plays, gamification and bonding activities. The conflict transformation process, by putting the emphasis on the importance of knowing the human relations and their strong connections with everyone's unique identity, was a great outcome of our objectives, because we managed, together to raise awareness towards today's violent movements related to discrimination, stereotypes and homophobia and find common grounds in combating them through deepen connection, sharing personal values and beliefs in a collective and diverse environment. It was a beautiful and useful journey on an emotional scale, combined with the learning and promotion of non-formal education as an on-going learning and practice method for youth and Erasmus+ program as a way of community integration.
