The Maker ABC project has set out to: Research the maker movement across Europe and look at it through the lens of entrepreneurship, SDGs and community building. The resources we have developed with the guide support the maker movement & maker communities by defining the activities, impact, challenges and opportunities available, in line with the current environment and climate change agenda, defined in the contexts of each partner. Make an impact in entrepreneurial learning, by exposing members of makerspaces to entrepreneurs from the maker movement who successfully run a business and by exposing entrepreneurs to sustainable visions and best practices of other maker communities. The concept of a maker is still a new one and varies depending on the place and social context of each. Makers and makerspaces are an important pillar of the modern creative industry but gain access to skills in a very roundabout way: through informal learning most of the time or with the help of the community. The Maker ABC guide defines a series of general terms from 3 angles, providing varied insight, but also holds a series of links and examples of best practices, with the aim to help guide the user in the development of key competencies
The Maker ABC project is here to better define and promote the maker movement across Europe and aid in the gaining of complementary skills of makers and makerspace coordinators to develop entrepreneurship and sustainable development competencies, through the exchange of good practices between makerspaces, communities of makers & local stakeholders and the consultation of experts. Although the Maker culture is widely spread, it is still a subculture. We want to bring it forward and help people adhere to it because it aligns with the principles and ideals of the future: multidisciplinarity, innovation, sustainability and a community willing to teach. We want to create a pathway for curious adults to gain access to this movement and the impact it has on the community; help makers find connections outside their community, learn, and innovate; help grow the abilities of makerspaces and their members and staff so they cam better support their communities.
