Objectives

Societies were increasingly facing sustainability challenges in the environmental sector due to issues such as climate change, land and water pollution, over-consumption trends, lack of active involvement in recycling programs, and a general lack of understanding of the causal relation between over-consumption and declining natural resources. Young people inherited environmental issues from generations of under-informed consumerism and under-developed ecological practices. In response, the project "Learn and Teach" aimed to raise awareness about the impact of consumerism on the environment and resources while encouraging youth to adopt a more sustainable mindset towards consumption in a cross-cultural framework. The project's approach was based on three key features: Circular Economy, the theory of 3R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and Creative Recycling. Circular Economy represented an economic system where products, goods, and services were exchanged in loops, regenerative by design, and aimed to retain and extract as much value as possible from products, parts of products, and all materials transformed in the process. By becoming informed about Circular Economy, youth could create a system of consumption focused on optimal reuse, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling of products and materials. During the project, these objectives were pursued through various activities such as workshops, seminars, and discussions. Participants engaged in interactive sessions aimed at raising awareness about the impact of consumerism on the environment and natural resources. They were introduced to the theories of 3Rs, circular economy, and creative recycling as tools for a more sustainable way of living. Moreover, participants were encouraged to think critically and creatively about ways to protect the environment while promoting sustainable business practices. The project emphasized the value of natural resources and how they could be conserved through responsible consumption and production patterns. Through these activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of the need to protect the environment and the importance of sustainable living for future generations.
