We, young migrants, have participated in a local Erasmus+ initiative “Friends without Borders” by our friend organization Positive YOUth. It gave us, somali youths a chance to connect with local, Swedish youths and with newcomer migrant youths, who needed friends on their arrival to Sweden. They had mentors, adult educators, but what they really needed was a friend of the same age, who could guide through the process of integration. It had such a big impact that we continued being friends. This example showed us that a simple initiative bringing locals and migrants together could tremendously help newcomers integrate, feel EU citizens and even get skills needed for employment in a new country. Thus we wanted to answer the NEED of friendships for newcomers. Additionally, we knew that for our newcomer peers, from Somalia, Syria, Palestine etc., our beloved topic of ecology is totally unfamiliar. Thus in our YE we also introduced ecology and exchanged sustainability experiences by answering the NEED of migrants to become familiar with the realities in the EU, like ecology, which is also needed for successful employment. Objectives were: 1 Discover and learn new ways of spending leisure time in useful and constructive ways when with friends, creating new, useful high quality objects and products. 2 Share and see each other's cultures through art, get to know each other and live in a peaceful, diverse environment to help to prevent violent radicalisation towards other cultures in the future. 3 Boost employability by learning to create from scratch, with our hands and sell our creations as gifts in digital space. 4 Learn about the circle economy, digital business and its benefits as a skill for future career. 5 Experience teamwork, formation and cooperation of community, practice patience, persistence and tolerance necessary for entrepreneurship. 6 Encourage participants to take initiative, raise awareness and promote sustainable lifestyle among ourselves and the public through street actions and online media platforms. 7 Promote EU citizenship, values and ERASMUS+ opportunities, strengthen partnerships.
