Objectives

The main aim of this professional development activities project is to exchange good practices and equip 34 youth workers from Jönköpings kommun and 33 youth workers from 3 partner organizations with new inclusive tools and non-formal education methods in order to improve the feeling of safe spaces and the inclusive youth work practices with young LGBTIQ people. We have envisioned this project to last for 24 months and to implement 4 youth workers mobilities in the form of study visits (followed by local interventions), and we hope to achieve the vision of creating more safe and inclusive spaces for vulnerable youth from our communities. The project idea comes from the staff of 'HBTQ Brunnen' of Jönköpings kommun. After implementation of activities with our target group for more than a year, we have discussed our experiences and potential for youth work practices improvement. We understood that we are eager to learn more about (but not limited to): LGBTIQ youth work practices in other European countries, safe spaces, well-being, mental and sexual health, identity. Based on our identified needs, we decided to create a learning opportunity in a form of an Erasmus+ professional development activities project for our youth workers and leaders, in cooperation with partner organizations from Europe. For this professional development activities project we have set the following 4 objectives that we aim to achieve through the 24 months of our project. By active participation in all “Safe Spaces+” project stages (preparation, implementation and follow-up), 67 youth workers working with LGBTIQ youth from 4 European partners will contribute to organizations’ quality of youth work by: 1. gaining broader understanding of LGBTIQ youth work practices of 4 European countries; 2. discovering new NFE methods used by Jönköpings kommun, Saplinq, Active Rainbow, Društvo DIH, and local partners for creating safe/inclusive spaces for LGBTIQ youth and disadvantaged groups; 3. improving their understanding of LGBTIQ youth in Sweden, Slovenia, Latvia and Slovakia; 4. developing greater intercultural cooperation between Jönköpings kommun and international partners from Slovenia, Latvia and Slovakia;
