Objectives

The youth exchange FINDING BALANCE is a result of European Solidarity Corps project, called: KNOWLEDGE MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE. Within the KNOWLEDGE MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE project, we at the ODTIZ Institute wanted to offer young people from Slovenia, aged between 18 and 30, who are interested in youth and project work, knowledge and practical experience on the topic of preparing and implementing a project, such as a youth exchange. Under the mentorship of Mija Pungeršič and Marja Koren, who have been running the Institute for Education and Inclusion ODTIZ since 2012 and have therefore accumulated a lot of diverse experience and knowledge in the field of youth work and project implementation over the years, we have had weekly meetings (which mostly took place via Zoom , because during the implementation of the project there was an epidemic of Covid 19), where together we've learned about the steps in preparing the project, everything from creating the initial idea, the preparation of the concrete program of the project, preparation for the physical implementation of the project and what we need to pay attention to, to final evaluations and preparing reports. The youth exchange FINDING BALANCE is therefore a practical product of acquired knowledge and interests of young people, who were actively participating in meetings within the KNOWLEDGE MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE project, and later on also being actively involved in the entire process of preparing and implementing the mentioned youth exchange. The aim and the objectives of the FINDING BALANCE project and the conceptual design of its program were formulated by young Slovenians during subsequent meetings within the KNOWLEDGE MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE project. Our aim for carrying out the youth exchange in question was to enable for young people, who during the Covid-19 epidemic, were forced to mainly "move" within the digital world, with extremely limited social contacts, to have authentic human contact and experience live learning again. To give them the opportunity to return to reality and to themselves. That they find again the somewhat lost balance between the individuals and the society, between caring for themselves and others, between passivity and activity within society, between calmness and productivity, and between excessive concern and apathy. The objectives that we wanted to achieve with the activities within the youth exchange in question were the following: - To enable for young people to experience holistic self-care, both for physical and psychological well-being - To enable for young people to learn in an international environment and introduce them to non-formal learning methods - To help young people overcome stereotypes, by enabling them to work in a group consisting of other young people with and without disabilities and therefore enabling new experiences in an environment where we are all different and support one another - During the project, empower young people to proactively choose their lifestyle and take care of their general well-being in life - Raise awareness among young people about the importance of caring for the environment through exploring topics such as sustainable development, local and organic food production and by presenting examples of good practices in this field
