One of the main purposes of the Slovenian Youth Agency is to provide quality content for young people and thus take care of their personal and professional development. We believe that the work of youth workers is of crucial importance, as they are the ones who create programs for young people. However, it often happens that a youth worker has to invest a lot of their energy in grant applications, finances, and other things that are essential for a project to be realized. For this reason, and also to ensure greater financial independence of the non-governmental sector, we have prepared a seminar that offers youth organizations and youth workers insight into what youth organizations can do themselves to become more financially independent from public grants, while also avoiding complete commercialization and ensuring even higher quality of their programs and projects for young people. We have found the answer in the principles of social entrepreneurship. The values pursued by the social entrepreneurship system largely coincide with the operating principles of non-governmental organizations. By pursuing these principles, we can ensure regular salary payments, reinvestment in organizational growth, development of new programs, services, and much more. All of this can be easier to achieve if the non-governmental organization has diversified income, particularly if it is responsible for a portion of the income itself.
