Objectives

By implementing the project, we wanted to strengthen the pedagogical, linguistic and digital competences of teachers. In accordance with continuous education and continuous improvement of foreign language teaching, especially in the field of digital teaching, we wanted to provide teachers with educational courses abroad, especially in the language they teach, so that they have the opportunity to get to know the culture and life in European countries. This particularly concerned teachers who have not yet had the opportunity to visit the country whose language they teach and those who teach preparatory courses for the state language exam, in which they teach the realities of individual states. They had the opportunity to share their experience with other teachers from European countries, too. One of the goals was also to spread awareness about the possibilities of the Erasmus+ program and about the common European community, which provides a lot of inspiration and space for cooperation. With the project, we also wanted to revive the working environment at the school, provide motivation and a more active view of the new possibilities that these courses bring. The goal - an increase in the number of students- was also a success.

Background

The State Language School is the oldest institution of its kind in Slovakia, providing language education to adult learners since the 1950s. In order to ensure modern and high-quality teaching, teaching staff need to be constantly educated, adapt to changes and new technologies. The COVID 19 pandemic accelerated changes in the use of digital technologies, and the Erasmus+ project made it possible to implement individual courses abroad, which, in addition to improving the language, focused mainly on digital competences and skills. In particular, these had to be strengthened, as online teaching and digitisation of the teaching process came to the fore, and in accordance with innovations in language teaching, it was necessary to ensure adequate educational opportunities on a wider platform - at the European level. It is important for the teachers of the Language School, in addition to using new methods in the teaching process and continuous education in the language, to personally get to know the culture, nation and social life of the country whose language they teach.
