Based on the expressed interest from schools that approached us, we wanted to create, test, and further disseminate a methodology as part of the project. This methodology aimed to support boys and young men on their journey to adulthood and maturity through workshops and other accompanying activities in collaboration with schools. We wanted to help them to reflect on what does it mean to be a Man in the 21.st century and into what kind of man they want to grow. Additionally, we aimed to motivate other men to participate in this collaboration. In our countries, there is a vast majority of female teachers and many young boys are missing older and mature men in this life period. Therefore, we intended to disseminate this methodology further and train other teachers, youth workers, and volunteers who had the potential to work with it.
Boys and young men are often raised predominantly by women due to high divorce rates and a majority of female teachers in schools, leading to a lack of male role models. This results in challenges such as dependency, excessive online engagement, and distorted views on relationships and life. Without a supportive environment for open discussion, immature behavior persists, contributing to selfishness and a lack of contribution to society. Additionally, changing perceptions of gender roles raise questions about being strong yet sensitive, successful at work and family life, and navigating complex identities. We aim to address these challenges by providing support and educational resources for boys and young men, in collaboration with schools seeking to address these issues.
