Objectives

The aim of the project was the capacity building of partners in the use of innovative approaches to empower and engage young people to practice democratic participatory processes regarding public space co-creation in the city in the spirit of the NEB. Objectives set and achieved: - Increasing the capacity of the partners to involve and consult young people in the high school age on issues related to sustainable urban planning, recreating the cities’ brownfield and unused public spaces using the green NEB approach. (Each partner has involved 40+ young people during the project implementation). - Create 1 transferable methodology (NEBI-enabler toolkit), explaining NEBI and green transition to young people and teachers/trainers by mid-2024. (more than 300 people have gained knowledge on NEBI and green transition). - develop one innovative digital tool by mid-2024 allowing young people to formulate, visualize and present their opinions on sustainable cities and planning. (40+ people have been involved in the pilot use of the tool). - include 40 young people in an inclusive and co-creation manner in the production of project results by mid-2024 - to create 40 suggestions of young people for the public space improvement.

Background

The project addressed two streams of needs: 1. Participating Organizations: - Enhance capacities in themes connected to New European Bauhaus (NEB) - beauty, sustainability, inclusion, accessibility, co-creation, democratic participation, digitalization, and gamification of public space planning. - Improve skills in facilitating youth participation in city co-creation and discussions with public authorities. - Seek innovative digital gaming tools for NEB topics. - Strengthen international collaborations, networks, and internationalization of activities. 2. Participating Youth: - Identify tools and engagement possibilities for climate action. - Empower youth to transform their surroundings into sustainable, green, and beautiful places. - Provide external expertise (beyond school) in urbanism, spatial planning, city ecology, sustainability, inclusion, empowerment, and best practices. - Broaden perspectives through international collaborations and foster a sense of Europeanship. The need analysis conducted before the start of the project helped define the needs of members and the target group. Based on these needs, the project’s aims, objectives, and results were formulated.
