Objectives

Since the Industrial Revolution, the fact that people have caused greenhouse gas emissions to provide energy for their modern lives has brought about an increase in the average temperature in the atmosphere. The fact that the temperature increases have been above the average since the 1800s has damaged the natural balance; Over time, it has caused the melting of glaciers, the warming of the oceans, the dryness of the soil, the increase in forest fires and the loss of ecosystems. Due to increasing global warming, the climate is changing at such a rate that living things cannot adapt. For this reason, the situation in the world has become a climate crisis, not a climate change. According to the report published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), our world should not warm up more than 1.5°C compared to the pre-industrial averages so that climate change does not cause more devastating consequences on living things and the ecological environment. However, according to the report, if greenhouse gas emissions continue as they are, this limit will be exceeded by 2052, and exceeding this limit has enormous effects. A large number of hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean and forest fires in Australia occur as a result of climate changes, and other natural disasters that increase their destructiveness every year reveal every dimension of the crisis. With the constantly changing and increasing temperatures, the records of "the hottest day of the year", "the hottest summer" and "the hottest day in the poles" are broken. Flood disasters in the Black Sea, increasing forest fires in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions, unexpected weather events, and heat waves are the indicators that the climate crisis has come to our doorstep in our country. Climate change is not a phenomenon that can be read only through its effects on the ecological environment. The climate crisis is also a human rights issue. The enormous destruction that it will create and is creating for humanity requires that this problem be addressed urgently. Directly due to environmental events such as hurricanes, storms, floods and tornadoes that occur as a result of climate change; Human rights are adversely affected by indirect events such as difficult access to clean water, arid soils, melting glaciers and rising sea levels. The right to life, the right to health, the right to water, the right to the environment, the right to food, the right to shelter are among the most affected human rights issues. On the other hand, while 400 thousand people die annually due to climate change, it is predicted that this number will approach 700 thousand in 2030. According to the World Health Organization, between 2030 and 2050, 95 thousand children will die due to malnutrition and 38 thousand people will die due to excessive heat due to climate change. Climate migrants are increasing as a result of unfavorable climatic conditions, the destruction of agricultural lands, and the flooding of cities due to rising sea levels. It is a predictable result that humanity is facing the danger of famine as a result of the agricultural lands reaching the point where they cannot meet the needs. For all these reasons, the climate crisis; The existing economic, social and cultural inequalities will deepen even more. The climate crisis will have more pronounced effects for some groups of people. Combating the climate crisis will also prevent human rights violations caused by climate change. This rights-based approach is also an important claimability against decision makers; It provides more motivation to people in terms of individual effort. In this context, with the project we carried out, it was aimed to raise the awareness and sensitivity of young people about both the climate crisis and the human rights violations caused by this crisis. As our specific goals: 1. To raise awareness among young people about the causes and consequences of the climate crisis caused by global warming. 2. To increase the level of knowledge of young people about the cause and effect relationship between the climate crisis and human rights, the concept of human rights, and which rights the climate crisis affects more 3. To increase the motivation of young people to take individual responsibility in order to prevent the climate crisis 4. To encourage the creation and implementation of human rights-based climate action policies to prevent global warming, albeit small, in proportion to our means. 5. To raise awareness about the impact of climate change on human rights locally.
