Objectives

In order to be able to teach better, teachers need knowledge about the effect of digital media and technologies in learning and educational processes in order to ultimately enable “our learners” to independently design their own learning processes in both school and extracurricular contexts. This also explains the enormous need for further training of our teachers in the learning areas of information and communication technologies (ICT), robotics & programming and game-based learning, both in terms of content and on a didactic and methodological level. From this we derived the following goals: 1) Deepen “digital literacy” among teachers, so that they can introduce learners to the digital challenges of everyday work in a better way (-> digital skills and competencies) 2) Strengthen teachers' ICT skills, new technologies should be introduced into lessons and increase the learning success of students (-> Digital Content, Technologies and Practices) 3) Digital skills are intended to increase the employability of our school’s graduates (-> employability)

Background

We are all exposed to numerous changes in our everyday working lives. Megatrends such as digitalization, automation and globalization have an enormous impact on our lives and work. Some even talk about the fourth industrial revolution. But what does digitalization or automation mean for people and their skills in the working world of tomorrow? Concepts such as 21st Century Skills or Future Work Skills attempt to approach this challenge. Four competencies will be of importance to 21st century learners: communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. They become the basis for self-directed learning and are also becoming increasingly important in training at BHAK Wien 22. In order to be able to teach better, teachers need knowledge about the effect of digital media and technologies in learning and educational processes. Our learners should be capable to design their own learning processes themselves, in school and in extracurricular contextes. This is believed to be the key to improving the employability of our students.
