We wanted to enable our students the opportunity to explore new cultures and different methods of teaching by attending a university in a different country. Students are also encouraged to focus on their interests and try out new learning content to expand their skills base which can be extremely valuable upon their return from their exchange and also for their long-term future. Through participating on an exchange students also grow and develop with an enhanced understanding of different cultures, different university structures, overcoming language barriers, solving problems and making connections within Europe. We also wanted to situate and promote our university within Europe for prospective incoming students. Accepting incoming students within our institution and integrating them with the current students brings a positive diversity into the university. They also bring with them skills and techniques or experiences to enhance the learning and knowledge of our own students. The incoming students provoke interest to our own students to consider their institutions and participating in the Erasmus programme. Enabling staff to participate in a mobility promotes our own university at the partner institution and enables staff to connect and share expertise, not only during their mobility but after their return enhancing connections and networks across Europe. The traineeships allow students to gather work experience in a foreign country and learn about different markets and opportunities across Europe whilst they are studying and it gives them a taster of areas they may want to specialise in, whilst also promoting our institution at various companies across Europe.
