The project “DoživetiManjšine.MinderheitenErleben.MjeńšinyDožiwić” aimed to bring together young people who are members of different minorities, who have migrant background, and are living in the regions close to the border and are therefore experiencing local communities on both sides of the border. With the project, we promoted respect and openness for the diversity that youngsters face in their everyday life. As the project’s title says it, experience minority, the participants had an opportunity to share their own experiences with their peers, exchange good practices and empower each other through storytelling. The main projects´ objectives were providing young people with opportunities to understand better their origins, know more about the historic events related to the minorities and their own minority; learn more about their identity, culture and therefore of importance of the active citizenship. Moreover, with the project we contributed to reducing fear, prejudices and therefore raising tolerance and respect of human rights. The emphasis of the project was put on cultural and ethnical interaction observing everyday situations in the participants’ environment and the concrete European and worldwide situation. With this project, we contributed to the social awareness, therefore the ethnic tolerance, prevention from the negativism and violence, equipping the participants with the capacity of critical thinking and afterwards encourage them to live actively the promoted values in their own environment. One another important objective was to work preventive against all anti-ethnic and anti-cultural realities that are threating to raise (again) in our society.
