We had planned this project to discuss, analyse, understand and propose new approaches and views on gender issues and perspectives and try to create.workshops and creative and artistic activities, as well as, tips and tools related to social media, in order to make young people (and consequently their families, relatives, acquaintances and communities) understand these issues and get more self-aware of their everyday behaviours, especially when it comes to engagement in online social spaces. The main need we wanted to tackle was that one of clarifying the nature of concepts, behaviours, customs related to gender and how these unwritten elements of our living together enter and mark our presence in online environments, sometimes in unpredictable ways and in connection with other background aspects of economic, social, cultural nature. We believe that this clarification was essential for bettering the work of youth workers and for bringing forward, where it is most needed, the education and awareness around gender issues. For this reason, we planned to develop and implement this long term training course, for and with youth workers targeting younger people With this project we wanted to learn and educate ourselves more about the sexism and gender-based discrimination in our society, whilst raising awareness and building up positive attitudes regarding this delicate topic. The themes were addressed from a constructive criticism viewpoint. And the impact will be particularly beneficial for the development and the qualitative improvement of Erasmus+ project, especially in the countries described above. Indeed, the 60 youth workers trained through this long-term project will, thanks to ripple effects, be able to train and to raise awareness of other young people around gender related issues, media and sexism but also become good examples with their approaches, the language they use (not sexist, not discriminative) and especially being more conscious about media/social media related issues. Specific objectives were: : - Gather people from different gender, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, fomenting an open dialogue and active participation around gender perspectives in different countries and across different backgrounds; - Create awareness about the realities of our society and of each country regarding gender-based situation, understanding and being more conscious about it; - Debate definitions and uncover sexist behaviours, analyse them and work them out; - Develop critical thought and strengthen everybody’s personalities by working tolerance, respect, teamwork ability; - Foster their feeling of sharing common values and raise their sense of belonging to Europe, increasing European values; - Raising awareness of gender and cultural diversity in local, regional and international levels; - Identify and share similarities and differences in everyday life in different countries; - Offer the opportunity to meet partner groups and develop concrete ideas for future projects focusing on gender, cultural diversity, and active participation of young people in order to prevent gender discrimination; - Increase knowledge about E+ Programme in order to develop new projects in the future; - Understand how gender issues and perspective are approached and depicted in online environments and what type of distortions and new inequalities related to gender emerge in online social spaces; During our second training course in Vienna: We tried to train youth workers so that they can support and empower young people to be agents for social change and combat gender-based stereotypes and sexism in offline and online media. Specific objectives were: - Building of key competences (knowledge, skills and attitudes) of youth workers/leaders to integrate different approach, tools and resources that promote gender equality in media content. - To engage, connect and empower young people to use opportunities and tools to create and share media content which will promote and support respect of human rights and gender equality. - To improve the quality of youth work and NFL to more efficiently and extensively use innovative and creative tools in their everyday work and promote respect of human rights, equal opportunities, and gender equality; - To promote and improve international cooperation, exchange and capacity development of youth organisations and young people, in the field of gender perspective in media context. During the project, participants gained theoretical knowledge about gender equality/equity and practical skills on how to use media tools as effective social intervention methods in their work in their local communities towards meaningful social change. Participants learned how to use offline and online media space to combat gender stereotypes, prejudices, sexism, and violence and hate speech and contribute to gender equality. Participants created, practiced and produced diverse media contents.
