Objectives

The project should give young people between the ages of 16 and 18 the possibility to experience themselves as active citizens who deal with social and political problems in their region and on a European level and actively participate in social and political life. With that project we wanted to develop and test methods for participatory processes with young people, like participatory workshops, tools for democratic participation and Future Literacy. In that process the participants should reflect on social needs and problems in their living environment and on a European level, get some input by experts on specific topics, and, building on this, to develop ideas or small projects that address the problems identified.

Background

Based on the fact that young people are underrepresented in decision-making processes which affect them we wanted to develop and test out a space and innovative exchange platform for young people where they can reflect, share and develop ideas for a good life together. The process was designed as a participatory process which should provide a learning space and a space for contributing to democratic life. By bringing together young people from Austria and Norway in a virtual room the project should also help to broaden young people's horizons and views and strengthen the feeling of European Community. The project addressed the needs of young people between the ages of 16 and 18 to participate in international exchange and cross-border processes without having to face bureaucratic and demanding hinderings as the project created a space for non-formal learning that is free from „achievement principle“. The second needs which were addressed were the needs of the participating organisations to bring their work to a new level with international perspective and a wider network with focus on international participatory youth work.
