Objectives

Four art schools and three festivals in five countries united their forces to offer a nomadic teaching of Performance Art, an exploration led by a pilot group of around twenty learners and teachers. Their journey followed the threat of the question of identity — successively in an intersectional perspective, in its relation to the collective, connected to the natural environment, and when facing censorship. Along the way was created a live archive, which testifies to the experience.

Background

This project grew out of a dialogue between four visual arts colleges, as part of the design of an international Master's degree in performance art. We began at a more modest level, addressing our usual students with a teaching program of a similar international dimension. Indeed, performance art needs to include in its teaching these notable characteristics of its subsequent practice, namely its inherently nomadic, profoundly international character, and its responsiveness to context (cultural, spatial, political, economic). We conceived the project in conjunction with professional structures for the presentation of works: two festivals with a central place for performance art, and a platform for the presentation of young performance artists. The project also reflected the European values we hold dear. Respect and recognition of diversity of origin, class, gender, sexuality and abilities; freedom of expression, threatened by censorship; consideration for a natural environment that demands our attention; the development of a community that does not deny individuality.
