Objectives

Primary objective was to enhance our pupils’ fundamental reading and writing skills, from preschool to the primary education final years.A key focus was on promoting inclusion, particularly for pupils with special needs, those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and those at risk of dropping out.By addressing these specific challenges, the project aimed to bridge educational gaps and provide equal learning opportunities for all pupils, regardless of their particularities. To achieve this,we combined traditional teaching methods with carefully selected digital tools and activities, both enriching the learning process introducing innovative approaches.Besides, the project integrated a strong focus on environmental issues, recognising the importance of teaching pupils not only academic skills but also social and ecological responsibility. In this way,we aimed to raise awareness and develop "green skills" among our pupils, fostering eco-responsible behaviours that could extend beyond the classroom, into their homes and communities.By equipping our pupils—and, potentially, their parents—with the knowledge and tools to adopt more sustainable practices,we aimed to create lasting changes, both in terms of academic success and environmental stewardship.

Background

Everyday class observations led to an alarming conclusion: our pupils’ increasing difficulty in acquiring and improving reading and writing skills (esp. for our special needs pupils, more numerous in our classes). Despite the numerous options (training courses, new strategies and resources) we tended to use the " trial and error" approach. Fortunately, within the partnership, we didn’t have the same approaches: some were more into “classic” approaches meanwhile others relied more on ICT. So, we wanted to be more self-confident in our capabilities to implement and develop new strategies in order to improve our pupils’ performance and take them, esp those with special needs or difficulties, to a higher level. Alongside, our pupils were much more eager to learn outside the classroom walls, in non "traditional" activities, so the idea came: we chose our environment, our planet and their protection as the framework and fields of application of our activities. Working in partnership has proved important to create a real school dynamic. Indeed, collaborating and sharing practices around these common issues have generated links and developed complementarity, which is also essential for the smooth running of any project.
