By setting up this project, we wanted to achieve two major goals: broadening our European perspective and establishing a sustainable coaching policy. We wanted to expose our teachers to different European cultures and practices in education. At the same time, we wanted to create a culture of coaching to support pupils in talent development, setting goals and building resilience, and support our teachers in their professionalisation journey on this. The project included workshops, trainings and educational materials focused on intercultural understanding, teamwork and personal growth. We measured success by participation, skill development and achievement of goals, striving to make a lasting impact on our school community.
The GO! atheneum Herzele is a six-year secondary school with an innovative working. Our policy is based on self-regulation. In collaboration with architects and our own pupils, our classrooms were transformed from classical classrooms into stimulating learning and living environments. In the first grade, we set up an A and B current and, in the second grade, courses with both transfer, dual and work-oriented finality. The directions we offer within this project are: sports, STEM(-techniques), human sciences, classical languages, orientation class, economics & organisation, society & welfare, sciences-classical languages, modern languages, classical languages, natural sciences, economics and sports sciences & sciences-mathematics. There are 381 pupils of whom 112 with fewer opportunities. and 64 have a different native language. Many of them come to us after previous negative experiences with 'classical' education systems. They experience these systems as pernicious for their development and are labelled 'too slow' or 'cognitively not strong enough'. Often, the choice of our school is one with an eye on the pupil's mental well-being. We believe in the capabilities of every pupil, given the right support.
