Ghent University (UGent) aims to take a leading role in Europe as a university that excels internationally in education and research. UGent aspires to be a place where all members of the community feel at home, and where students are optimally prepared for the challenges of today's globalized society and labor market, transcending national borders. Education and training are crucial for enabling young people to develop these international competencies. A brainstorming session on ‘future-proof education’ (2021), involving various UGent stakeholders, resulted in a continued commitment to UGent’s six Strategic Education Objectives. However, to meet future challenges, we must also consider three additional key strategies: future-proof curricula, lifelong learning, and Blend@UGent. Our ambition is to train students to become lifelong learning citizens. To accelerate the implementation of this new educational vision at Ghent University, APOLLO 8 was created and rolled out from November 2021 to October 2023. The Erasmus+ program is a very important vehicle to develop this policy, allowing the internationalization of higher education to remain on the agenda of every university in Europe.
