Objectives

The participation in the project has great benefits and a positive influence on education and research. We believe that the expertise, skills, and infrastructure within a single university are not enough to address the growing complexity of global challenges and to contribute in a significant way to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, participation in the KA131 programme is essential for expanding the network used for international collaboration in education and research. Exposure to different educational systems and environments can shift students' perspectives on education, enhancing their academic profiles and employability. As stated in the European Declaration on Global Education to 2050, VUB believes that people are empowered by being active creators of a world of justice & peace, solidarity, equity & equality, sustainability, and international understanding. The programme facilitates structured and well-managed exchanges of students and staff with partner institutions mainly across Europe, while they receive financial support. The participation in the project goes hand in hand with the quality framework of Vrije Universiteit Brussel, which describes the policy guidelines to guarantee the quality of our collaborations with partner universities. This ensures that our students graduate with an international mindset, embracing diversity and are well-prepared for an international and multicultural work environment in Brussels, Belgium, and Europe. Additionally, thanks to staff mobility, our staff members are able to share their experiences with other universities, promoting our values such as free inquiry while gaining intercultural understanding, language proficiency, and personal growth. Several services and academics can be connected through the mobilities, both within our European university alliance EUTOPIA and beyond which is key to the development of the alliance and of the university. The EUTOPIA alliance’s partners have agreed among them on a charter stating that each university must strive to achieve 100 mobilities to the partner universities of the alliance.
