Objectives

The main goal of the Lingua Verde project was to combine language learning with education about sustainability. We wanted to help students and teachers develop the skills and knowledge needed to support a greener and more sustainable future. By linking language learning with important topics like climate change and renewable energy, we aimed to make lessons more engaging and meaningful. We also wanted to improve students' language skills in English and French while helping them learn about and appreciate other cultures. The project encouraged intercultural teamwork, giving students the chance to collaborate with peers from Belgium, Italy, and Greece. Another objective was to create new teaching materials and methods, like CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), to make learning more innovative and effective. Lastly, we hoped to inspire students, teachers, and the wider community to take action on environmental issues, creating a positive impact both in our schools and beyond. Through activities like clean-up projects, eco-tours, and climate action plans, we worked to raise awareness and empower everyone involved to become agents of change.

Background

We applied for the Lingua Verde project to meet important needs in our school and partner schools. First, we wanted to make learning foreign languages more interesting and useful by connecting it to big global problems like climate change and sustainability. This way, students could learn languages while also understanding how to help the environment. The project also aimed to improve how we teach languages, using methods like CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), where students learn about topics like sustainability in a foreign language. We wanted to raise awareness about the environment and encourage students and staff to act in ways that are better for the planet. By working with schools in Belgium, Italy, and Greece, we hoped to help students understand and value different cultures, work together on shared problems, and learn from each other. This teamwork gave us the chance to share ideas, create new teaching materials, and make long-term changes in how we approach language learning and sustainability.
