Objectives

In 2020, our 4 associations presented a project selected "Meeting the Other", which had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea was to create a meeting between the young people of different local houses and a French association of Reunion Island. The topic of these youth groups was a reflection on the The European Union has a duty to respect human rights. After having been postponed and then abandoned the project by the impossibility of physically bringing young people from Reunion Island, the Belgian associations nevertheless, In the summer of 2021, we gathered the group of young Belgians planned for the exchange around the performing arts and we observed that their desire was always present. Since the issue of discrimination was raised for two years, the subject was refined during various group discussions to see if the subject was still important to them. These reflections led to a desire to address the LGBTQ+ cause (lesbian, gay, bi and trans). This topic is driven by young people because some of them claim to be part of the community, others wonder and some want to know more. Young people are asking a lot of questions about inequalities within different European countries regarding the rights of people belonging to the LGBTQ+ community. The links created with Reunion Island have been maintained despite the pandemic and the desire to carry out a project has remained there for them as well. The group of young Belgians therefore expressed their desire to meet the Reunionnais on the basis of the LGTBQ+ cause by an exchange of views on the issue. The problem encountered is that there is no European uniformity in terms of the protection rights of people from the LGBTQ+ community, just as there is no uniformity in the protection of that community. The idea is to meet prejudices based on one’s beliefs and culture. The project objectives are therefore: - Educating against anti-LGBT hatred and discrimination, - Encourage intercultural learning and dialogue and nurture European ownership of sexual orientation and the LGBTQ+ community; - To develop the skills and attitudes of young people through knowledge and listening, the search for information and the comparison of rights in different countries of the European Union and the sense of debate and open dialogue; - Argumentation and capacity for consensus; - Speaking in the public space; - Implementation of tools to deconstruct prejudices; - Reinforce European values and eradicate prejudices and stereotypes; - Raise awareness about society and actively stimulate engagement in it. - Discover how the Government is stepping up its commitment to fight racism, anti-Semitism and hatred anti-LGBT+
