The main objectives of the RURBEST 22 project were to empower rural youth, increase their participation in decision-making processes and foster networking and cooperation among youth organizations in different rural areas across Europe. The goal was to move towards empowered, engaged, and connected rural youth, to point out good practice action stories led by youth in rural areas, and to increase the capacity of youth to formulate their needs in policy changes to allow the multiplication of those good practices in rural areas. The project concentrated on bringing together young people from all around rural Europe who were leading an action at the local and regional level or would like to start an action in order to ensure learning and capacity building through experience exchange and learning activities, as well as strengthen and nourish an active and sustainable rural youth network based on the ERYP network. The decision was made to integrate youth participants in ERP activities in an intergenerational perspective. This decision was made in order to respond to youth needs to be an equivalent part of experience exchange and participatory processes and not a separate group. A separate youth declaration was not prepared in the next ERP event in 2022, but youth were invited to join the ERP Manifesto, which is a document that claims policy changes in rural areas and is presented to European decision-makers. Youth chose the topics of their interest in the Manifesto and updated them with their point of view and their claims. Overall, the project aimed to contribute to a more inclusive, democratic and sustainable rural development, where the voices and needs of young people are taken into account.
