Objectives

The "ActivatE+U" project united the efforts of non-governmental organisations from five countries - Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, Serbia and North Macedonia to respond to their needs in youth work, especially to equip the youth workers with competences and methods for increasing the level of active citizenship among the young people and in particular their civic awareness. Therefore, as part of the project a mobility for professionals – the training course “ActivatE+U”, was carried out to train 25 youth workers and to upgrade their competences to encourage young people to be active citizens and raise their awareness of democratic and EU processes. It is focused on updating the non-formal methods used and to learn new effective digital tools by youth workers to activate young people`s participation, including those who are living in the isolated regions of Europe or those with fewer opportunities. The concrete objectives were: -To modernise the non-formal methods of youth workers to increase youth participation in democratic life and civil society. -The youth workers to learn new effective tools to engage young people in EU processes and the opportunities it offers. -To integrate the use of digital tools and methods in youth work with focus to democracy and active citizenship. -To share and learn effective approaches for inclusion of young people living in the rural regions of Europe. In addition, through its objectives and activities, the project covered the thematic areas and priorities set out in Objective 1 of the European Youth Goals, focusing on ensuring the fruitful participation of young people in EU decision-making; ensuring access to quality, unbiased and easy-to-understand information for young people about how the EU works and what opportunities it offers; building trust in young people in the EU project. As a result, the preset aim and objectives of the present project were fulfilled through specific activities to modernise the informal methods of youth workers that they use in their daily work with young people. New innovative methods were shared and developed to increase the participation of young people in democratic life and civil society. The youth workers participating in the mobility, successfully gained knowledge about new effective tools to engage young people in the EU processes and opportunities it offers. These tools and specific approaches were also tailored to the fact that most of the represented organisations also work with young people living in isolated regions or with limited opportunities. In this regard, the fact that some of the youth workers themselves belonged to this particular group was helpful. During the activities, methods for integrating the use of digital tools and methods in youth work were presented and then applied as part of teamwork, with the main focus being on democracy and active citizenship. The youth workers also had the opportunity to actively share and learn effective approaches for involving young people living in rural areas of Europe. The mobility for professionals – the training course “ActivatE+U” took place in Varbovo, Bulgaria between 1-7 July 2023.
