Objectives

Through the implementation of the project, the Future Work 4s consortium aimed to develop a gamified open online course (MOOC), designed to equip academic students and learners with four transversal skills anticipated to be in high demand in the labor market and society during the 4th industrial revolution: digital competencies, green skills and environmental awareness, entrepreneurship and innovation, and social skills. The primary objective of the project was to create a future-oriented, transdisciplinary curriculum that integrates these four areas into a single, comprehensive program accessible to students and lifelong learners across all disciplines. The course leverages innovative digital pedagogies, including gamified learning, project-based learning, and interactive exercises, to deliver an engaging and inspiring learning experience. Additionally, the consortium sought to empower female learners, who are underrepresented in many sectors, to generate more advanced opportunities in the coming decades, including digital and green jobs, as well as entrepreneurship.

Background

The Future Work 4’s project addressed critical challenges arising from transformative trends such as the 4th industrial revolution, climate change, the transition to a circular economy, economic volatility, demographic shifts, and the impact of COVID-19. These factors have reshaped the demands of the labor market, making it essential for the workforce to possess a diverse set of competencies to adapt effectively, have a satisfying career and a fulfilling life. The developed open online training program (MOOC) allows all higher education students across all fields of study, as well as all interested lifelong learners, to obtain generic competencies in 4 areas: • Digital competencies; • Green skills and environmental awareness; • Entrepreneurship and innovation; • Social skills.
