The project aimed to design, develop and validate the ST(R)EAM IT platform – an integrated educational system that combines an autonomous mobile robot, a web-based interface, and digital content to enable remote, interactive virtual museum visits. Its specific objectives were to: - Strengthen digital readiness, resilience and capacity in VET and secondary education. - Increase students’ motivation for STEM/STEAM subjects through hands-on robotics and interactive learning. - Provide accessible, inclusive opportunities for cultural participation regardless of distance, physical limitations, or economic barriers. - Develop a teacher-trainer community of practice across four countries to ensure long-term sustainability. - Support museums in digitising exhibits and adopting innovative educational tools. - Produce high-quality open digital content (OERs) and a methodology for tele-presence-based teaching.
The project responded to a clear and urgent need for innovative digital learning solutions, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced students and teachers to rely on static, screen-based distance learning. Across partner countries, schools and cultural institutions identified the need for more interactive and accessible digital tools that could enrich the educational experience, reduce inequality in access to cultural resources, and promote digital readiness in VET and secondary education. At the same time, museums and cultural heritage institutions were seeking new ways to reach young audiences through technology, particularly in geographically remote or underserved areas. The partnership identified robotics-supported tele-presence as an opportunity to combine STEM education, cultural heritage, and accessibility, while also supporting the digital transformation priorities of the Erasmus+ programme.
