Objectives

The XR Women project aimed to achieve the following objectives: -Promote language Learning through the use of XR tools to support both refugee women/women with fewer opportunities with their communication skills, inclusion, civic engagement, and participation and adult educators/ language teachers in improving their teaching practices to meet the learners’ needs better; -Create tailored Upskilling Pathways to improve accessibility to education for refugee women and women with fewer opportunities -Empower refugee women & women with fewer opportunities through innovative technological tools that can enhance their educational experiences.

Background

The XR Women project addressed the pressing educational needs of refugee women or women with fewer opportunities. The increasing influx of refugees into Europe and the significant barriers they usually face in language learning and active engagement in the host societies highlight the importance of a more accessible and high-quality language education that supports social integration & empowerment. This project aimed to fill this gap by proposing an XR-based language training that directly addresses the daily needs of refugees in a foreign country, such as understanding the asylum process, medical care, and job searching. Additionally, the project focused on empowering women with fewer opportunities who face various challenges, such as discrimination, lower educational backgrounds, and limited professional prospects. The XR-based innovative language training proposed by the project teaches essential vocabulary. It encourages personal empowerment and socio-economic integration, reducing the risk of violence and enabling these women to reach their individual goals. The project addressed language teachers' lack of skills and knowledge in using XR tools to create engaging, context-driven language classes.
