HOST Project Objectives: 1) To equip Hospitality HR and Management with tailored education and tools to train and support staff with autism, improving their competitiveness, value, and well-being. The project’s VET course addresses ASD-specific needs, guiding HR professionals to deliver effective training while empowering ASD staff to refine their skills. 2) To increase the productivity and job retention of autistic staff in Hospitality. The project’s results, including a board game, serve as motivational and practical tools, encouraging autistic employees to pursue higher roles and fostering team-building while enhancing workspace quality. 3) To reduce the employment gap between disabled and non-disabled staff by creating equal opportunities and eliminating workplace exclusion for people with autism. This initiative promotes inclusivity and showcases Europe’s commitment to diversity in Hospitality. 4) To enhance the role of VET in developing the careers of autistic staff in EU Hospitality by providing practical, hands-on training tailored to their specific learning needs, ensuring realistic and impactful skill development.
DEKAPLUS applied for this project to address the critical employment gap for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in the European market, particularly in the hospitality sector. Despite their strengths, such as attention to detail and focus, less than 10% of people with ASD are employed, often in low-wage jobs, due to barriers like lack of tailored training, communication challenges, and prejudices. The project addresses two main needs: first, the education of hospitality HR and managers on supporting staff with ASD, focusing on social inclusion, skill development, and career progression. Second, the creation of accessible learning tools like the HOST Board Game, designed to help ASD staff develop technical, interpersonal, and other soft skills in engaging, practical ways. By targeting hospitality Managers and HR Experts, the project aimed to foster inclusive work environments, enhance the quality of life for staff with autism, and unlock their potential to contribute meaningfully to the workforce, aligning with EU priorities of inclusivity and social cohesion.
