Objectives

The World Health Organization (WHO) calls climate change the greatest threat to global health in the 21st century. This youth exchange gathered young people from 5 different countries to learn and share ideas about nature protection and sustainable development. All countries approach the challenge of addressing global warming and climate change differently, each striving to mitigate its effects on the environment. In Agros, Cyprus, a Youth Exchange convened 40 young people from 5 countries for a 9-day program focused on global warming, climate change, and environmental pollution. Utilizing non-formal education methods, participants enhanced their awareness of environmental issues and exchanged knowledge and experiences regarding potential solutions applicable in their communities, cities, and countries. The exchange aimed to equip participants with the competencies, skills, and responsibilities necessary to address waste management effectively. They delved into various types of waste, learning strategies for recycling, reducing, and reusing materials. Additionally, discussions encompassed legal norms and regulations pertaining to waste management in different countries, as well as each country's initiatives in combating global warming and pollution. Through collaborative dialogue, participants explored ideas for collective action in safeguarding the environment and ensuring its cleanliness. By implementing this project, both young people and the wider population can overcome any apathy or disinterest towards environmental issues. This Youth Exchange served as a platform for fostering a sense of shared responsibility and collective action in protecting our planet. The main focus of the Youth exchange, was environmental protection and raising awareness about sustainable development through voluntary action. The aim was to raise awareness about environmental issues and explore the possibilities to act toward sustainable living culture. It was a project aimed to develop among young participants from 5 different countries the importance of being in direct contact of nature to: -Develop healthy lifestyle for themselves thanks to open-air activities -Develop an eco-way of thinking and eco-habits, useful to create a better daily life and to start to think their own green-entrepreneurship future thanks to meeting with experts, role games, workshops, discussions, debates about topics as ecology, generation awake, recycling, environment, sustainable development and giving a big importance to topics as green economy and eco-citizenship and taking part in volunteering actions -Preserve the environmental resources as primary source of health of the Earth and to preserve our future. The overall goal of the Youth Exchange on climate change issues was to provide capacity building to the 40 participants (aged 18-30) from the above noted countries that they are better able take initiatives that address their communities’ environmental needs. To got achievable results out of project, we have developed following objectives: (a) To build knowledge of project participants on Climate Change science with theoretical and practical opportunities to live more environmentally friendly (causes, consequences, impacts on local and global level, eco- friendly living). (b) to empower participants with the competences to address community environmental needs through campaign. (c) to encourage participants to further use a social media and youth portals to promote eco-friendly lifestyle and empower them to multiply competencies gained during the Youth Exchange in their local communities by spreading outputs of the project (project video, press releases, photos etc.) (d) To promote youth interactions, networking and partnerships (e)To raise awareness about consequences of unsorted waste and importance of recycling (f)To introduce reduce-reuse-recycle method participants and their local communities. (g)To encourage participants and their local communities to take direct action and responsibly recycle waste. The main focus of the Youth exchange was environmental protection and raising awareness about sustainable development. The aim is to raise awareness about environmental issues and explore the possibilities to act toward sustainable living culture. We believe that this project was an effective way to achieve sustainability in Europe and engaged youth to take actions against climate change. Recognizing the importance of developing the diverse knowledge, values and skills necessary to address the climate crisis, the project aimed to achieve the following objectives: 1) to contribute to efforts to build the skills and competencies of youth to act confidently in their own spheres of influence and to create an environment of hope for the future, 2) to provide an opportunity for local and international youth to connect, share experiences and learn from each other. 3) To help young people understand the process and impacts of climate change
