This multilateral project was initiated by Czech young travelers who realize the importance of building environmental and cultural awareness as well as respect in relation to ever-increasing tourism worldwide. The idea was to promote greater understanding and appreciation for nature, local society and culture by implementing an ecotourism project that would address the current issues resulting from mass tourism to minimise visitors’ physical, social, behavioral and psychological impact on local communities. Our project had following Objectives: 1. Build environmental and cultural awareness as well as respect. 2. Empower young people in active citizenship by their participation in decision-making process and taking responsibility for environmental protection in their home countries. 3. Educate participants about the environmental, social and political impacts of both mass tourism and ecotourism via nonformal learning; and foster their critical thinking skills when evaluating pros and cons of both phenomena. 4. Raise awareness about ecotourism to promote environmental sustainability, long-term solutions for conserving, sustainable travelling and enhancing bio-cultural diversity. Overall, the project addressed the necessity of environmental, economic and social sustainability in the light of ever-increasing tourism in both host and home countries of the project participants. The project also targeted other aspects highly topical within the European context, such as the need for intercultural communication skills via creating the multilateral project that involves five different countries.
