The Regional Conferences of EYP CZ 2022; Europe Inside and Out project was organised with the main mission of educating a young generation of Europeans on current topical issues within the common agendas of the French, Czech and Swedish presidencies in the Council of the EU. While bolstering intercultural dialogue and soft skills development, the project strongly emphasised the importance of providing a platform for dialogue between the youth and experts. The main objectives were stated as follows: a) To motivate young people to become active citizens and actively take part in democratic life: Throughout the project, participants were introduced to different ways of active citizenship and educated on the functioning of EU institutions. They were inspired to raise their opinions in public debates and defend democratic values. This year’s activities focused on cultivating knowledge and fostering an environment for constructive debates about the current agendas of the French, Czech and Swedish presidencies in the Council of the EU and other vital current European issues. b) To increase young people’s interest in EU affairs during the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU and to enable young people to reflect on it after it ends by discussing the agenda with the involved decision-makers and experts: Upon guided discussions and extensive opinion sharing on selected EU affairs connected with the agenda of #CZPRES, the participants had the opportunity to review and evaluate the Czech presidency with professionals and policymakers, particularly during the third activity of the project. c) To increase the involvement and interest of decision-makers to interact with the young population on the issues of the day: As the youth represents the generation of tomorrow, promoting discussions between them and the current decision-makers created the perfect opportunity for intergenerational understanding. It challenged the current policymakers to implement sustainable practices for the future, and at the same time, it introduced the young people to the practical matters of the discussed issues. d) To improve the soft skills of youngsters and to achieve personal growth and self-development: Conferences of EYP CZ push the participants to step out of their comfort zones and develop in areas they may have never challenged before. As the Regional Selection Conferences (RSCs) often serve as the first encounter with EYP, the Delegates faced a completely unfamiliar environment they had to quickly adapt to. The setting of diverse Committees enabled them to develop in numerous areas, particularly in language skills, opinion forming, logical argumentation and public speaking. While discussing with their fellow Committee members, they were encouraged to compromise, build respect for differing opinions and form a consensus on final decisions. During the General Assembly, they were encouraged to defend those decisions and present them in the most understandable way to the rest of the Committees. e) Creating an environment where youngsters from different backgrounds can exchange their worldviews and share their opinions. EYP CZ’s activities always put a particular emphasis on diversity. Our projects, therefore, connect people from all corners of Europe, from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. The separate Committees were carefully constructed to be as diverse as possible. As per tradition, this year’s Regional Selection Conferences welcomed various Officials from 20 countries. f) Improve the language skills of young people. With English being the official working language of EYP, all participants were intensively exposed to the language throughout the entirety of the events. This greatly improved not only their English speaking but also their writing, pronunciation and vocabulary. The demand for practical language usage served as a unique opportunity to develop beyond the lessons taught at formal education institutions. g) Creating a stronger platform for the peer-to-peer exchange of participants from the Czech Republic, France and Sweden. The attendance of the Swedish delegation during one of the activities enabled Czech and Swedish Delegates to share their worldviews. French contribution was mainly achieved within the project management, strategy and organisational aspect. The cooperation with the French side consisted primarily in sharing good practices in the area of management of our organisations (e.g. in the creation of the Czech Support Fund, which already operates in France). The French also helped to establish relations with the French Embassy in Prague, whose representative participated in the Roundtable Weekend event, and the French Institute in Prague, with whom we are planning a debate event on youth participation at the DOX Center in Prague.
