Objectives

In the 2022 project, we continued to work on developing new counselling formats to improve the information on all opportunities for a semester stay abroad. During the pandemic, we were forced to switch from face-to-face events to digital counselling and had very good experiences with this. Students were able to take part in the information events digitally from anywhere and were therefore more flexibly accessible than with face-to-face events. While the aim during the pandemic was purely to make information accessible and disseminate it, we are now working more intensively on increasing the number of outgoings with the help of digital information formats. As for an example: We have developed additional digital events in the area of incoming mobility: Approximately three months before the start of the orientation weeks, we offer information and advice formats on finding accommodation and health insurance for our international exchange students. This makes the start of the semester abroad smoother for exchange students, as the question of accommodation is largely resolved and they are informed about health insurance. There is also no more uncertainty about the semester contribution, its benefits and its significance. This also reduces the workload for the ERASMUS team. There is a strong demand at HSD for the opportunity to support short-term mobility programmes in order to provide an international experience for students who are unable to commit to a longer stay abroad. This format will be further expanded. Short term mobility should also help students to gain confidence and remove any barriers to a longer stay abroad. Together with the Climate Protection Team at HSD, the ERASMUS team is involved in raising awareness of sustainable mobility. The team promotes sustainable mobility by providing grants and travel days and encourages sustainable travelling. Teaching and staff mobilities are encouraged to travel by train. Strategic partnerships in neighbouring countries that are easy to reach by rail support the idea of sustainability. This partnership network should also serve to create suitable offers for students with special needs. Not every university is equally well-equipped for every need, so a catalogue of the facilities at the various universities serves as a guide for interested students and, above all, as a guarantee that they will arrive and study well at the relevant institution. This is not only about the accessibility of the campus, but also of the surrounding area, the public space as a whole, especially the city. The introduction of the right to award doctorates for universities of applied sciences and the establishment of the doctoral college in North Rhine-Westphalia opens up new opportunities for us to support doctoral students for longer stays. Formats are to be developed for this in order to reach and adequately address the target group.
