Objectives

Catholic University of Applied Sciences Mainz (CUAS Mainz) is a state recognized university with currently 1500 students. Students can enroll in the following three faculties: Social Work and Social Sciences, Practical Theology, and Healthcare and Nursing. The main characteristic of the university is the wide range of offered courses due to the application-oriented teaching, research and continuing education with an international orientation. On January 1, 2009 the Institute of Applied Research and International Research was founded to meet the requirements of the Bologna Process. The university perceives itself as an internationally-oriented institution that actively promotes intercultural exchange and learning. This is implemented in the university's internationalization strategy, which focuses, among other things, on international mobility, international partnerships, international competence and international studies. The Erasmus+ project is of utmost importance for the implementation of the aforementioned points on internationalization. Catholic University of Applied Sciences Mainz offers an international degree program with a mandatory year abroad. Students should be supported accordingly with the funding in order to successfully complete their studies. In addition, the International Office did advise students in particular who wanted to spend a voluntary semester abroad. Students were supported in the preparation, execution and financing from study abroad visits as well as university staff during international mobilities. By supporting short-term lectureships and further edcuation programs abroad for teaching and administrative staff, the Erasmus+ program did contribute to the internationalization of the university. In addition, various acitivies for incoming students were financed through the project with the goal to increase students numbers and thus, to strenghten international exchange and partnerships. Furthermore, the Erasmus+ project was not only of great importance for the university's nationwide networking activities, but also for the (international) expansion of the network. It helped with active participation in the Erasmus+ network and supported participation in international conferences and exhibitions.
