The ERASMUS+ programme promotes European awareness. By studying or completing an internship, teaching or further education programme abroad, understanding and appreciation of other cultures and ways of life is significantly increased. Not only are individual horizons broadened, but prejudices are also broken down and intercultural dialogue is promoted. At the same time, the visit of international guests promotes internationalisation at the HAWK. This enables international exchange ‘at home’ and offers the opportunity to engage with another language and with international facets of the content of one's own teaching/learning area. Promoting mobility and exchange improves educational and training opportunities for young people and creates an environment that encourages innovative and sustainable approaches. Many projects include components of environmental education and sustainable development. Students and teachers are encouraged to address and find solutions to global challenges such as climate change, resource utilisation and sustainable urban development.
