Objectives

The internationalisation strategy of HVF focuses on a) establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with European universities and practitioners worldwide focusing on priority areas for the development of research and knowledge transfer, b) providing European competencies and intercultural and digital skills to students, c) creating an internationalised learning experience and promoting teachig and studying abroad, d) developing national curricula with relation to international aspects and comparative studies, e) encouraging knowledge transfer between research and practice and increasing competitiveness of the German public institutions and authorities, f) addressing global societal challenges and increasing students' employability on the labour market. Based on these strategic goals we pursued the following aims by implementing the project: 1. To stimulate the innovation processes in Germany through student, professor and researcher mobility. In terms of digitalizing the public sector, it proved to be very effective to examine how other countries and public authorities are dealing with EU directives and putting EU policies into practice. During their internships, HVF students get a chance to learn different approaches and best practices ranging from administrative simplification to improved operational efficiency and integration with technology, e.g. regarding electronic invoicing or SAP/ECC solutions for the public sector. During their short-term mobilities, members of academic staff are involved in research and innovation acitivies of the partner university and share their knowledge and ideas both in guest lectures as well as at their home institution. Partner universities benefit from a strong practice-orientied experience which help their students explore the practical application of science whereas HVF outgoings are enabled to get a research-orientied and interdisciplinary perspective as well as innovative theoretical and teaching methods. 2. To increase the number of mobilites and to encourage underrepresented target groups to spend time abroad. Traditionally, students choosing HVF come from the near surroundings and have strong regional roots. Sustainability and orientation towards local, regional and European labour market play an important role both in curricular and extracurricular activities. These demands are also taken into account in the practical training offered by partners abroad where international experience should integrate and reflect local and regional particularities. The graduates should be able to take up work in the public sector which requires both a formal qualification and intercultural and language skills. Our participation in the Erasmus+ programme is important to achieve the institutional goal since it gives the opportunity to develop relevant competencies and skills outside the strictly regulated curriculum. To increase mobility numbers, HVF aims at creating an inclusive environment encouraging underrepresented groups to go abroad by improving advisory and support services in cooperation with the units dealing with diversity, inclusion and gender equality. 3. To promote European identity and social engagement. By offering a European perspective in student and staff mobility, HVF responds to the modern qualification requirements of the stakeholders. Given the profile of the study programmes, the university's strategy is to further develop active collaborations with Erasmus+ partners and to explore exchange opportunities with English-speaking countries. HVF promotes social engagement and volunteering actions at all levels. Erasmus+ participants gain numerous positiv social and cultural aspects from learning and working together with the host community. Exposure to new cultures and perspectives helps HVF members build mutual understanding and deal with complex global issues, and provides an opportunity for personal growth. 4. To enhance cooperation in teaching and research to develop new project ideas and attract funds. HVF develops and implements short, mid- and longterm research projects and encourages its members to paticipate in international conferences and workshops and make publications in international journals. Erasmus+ participants gain relevant knowledge and skills for imparting information to non- or less-mobile students and colleagues and for including research components in the form of BA/MA thesis or student projects. 5. To promote exchange of knowledge and experience between academia and stakeholders. Due to the practical-oriented aspects of the study courses, HVF encourages collaborations with partners from the work-field or research areas. Erasmus+ programme sets proper incentives to encourage faculties to launch international activities by inviting guest lecturers, using English-language materials and attracting internship partners as tutors/supervisors, thus contributing to the improvement of the overall quality of teaching and learning.
