Objectives

Hochschule Geisenheim University (HGU) has a unique profile in viticulture, enology, and special crops. Within its internationalization strategy, it focuses on Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and the Western Balkans, regions with a long tradition in grape cultivation, a rich gene pool of vines, and strong development potential. While HGU has cooperated with Georgia and Armenia for many years, since 2019 it has expanded its activities to Albania, Kosovo, and Ukraine under Erasmus+ ICM. The aim is to strengthen visibility in the region, support modernization of the wine industry, and create a unique selling point through joint projects. Mobility of students, teachers, and staff broadens knowledge, promotes intercultural exchange, and contributes to the EU modernization agenda. Partner universities seek alignment with international standards and benefit from HGU’s expertise in wine sciences, sustainability, and business, while HGU gains access to technical know-how and genetic resources. The cooperation fosters employability, international awareness, and lays the groundwork for joint curricula, double degrees, and research projects, thereby supporting long-term modernization and global competitiveness.
