During the final phase of the pandemic, the goal was to cautiously but with a great deal of enthusiasm, fighting spirit, and commitment, return to lively exchanges and genuine collaboration. Above all, to be able to offer students options again: unrestricted mobility and adequate financial support, the opportunity to establish personal contacts, and the opportunity to experience learning and teaching situations outside of the screen. The travel ban imposed by the state government on public sector employees, which remained in place until the end of 2022, significantly slowed down teaching and staff mobility, especially since digital teaching had now become established as a resource-saving option for all involved. The aim here was to bring joint projects back from the digital to the real world of teaching and research and to promote the privilege of face-to-face academic exchange. With the lifting of the travel ban, interest in staff mobility also picked up again. At the HWG LU, staff mobility was already a personnel development tool before the pandemic and was now to be increasingly practiced at all levels of the personnel structure, primarily during International Weeks.
