Objectives

In 2015, Paderborn University (UPB) received Erasmus+ funding for the first time to support mobilities with Tunisia under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) project. After completion, it was selected as a Good Practice example by the German National Agency (NA DAAD). This boosted its visibility and enabled UPB to expand to further regions and partner universities in subsequent projects. In the 2022 project, UPB cooperated with 11 universities in 7 countries across the Western Balkans, South Mediterranean, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Unlike in 2020, Vietnam was not included; instead, partnerships with Kenyatta University (Kenya) and University of Kara (Togo) were established. North Africa is of particular interest as a Mediterranean region and Europe’s immediate neighbor, complementing our Erasmus+ cooperation with Turkey, France, Greece and ICM projects in Tunisia, Cameroon, Kenya, and Togo. These partnerships have deepened African connections, increased UPB’s international presence, and enhanced skills among students and staff, especially in teaching methods and network building. UPB has participated in Erasmus+ KA107/KA171 since 2015 and reapplies regularly to expand exchange opportunities.
