Objectives

Background: The collaboration between Arkansas Tech University (ATU) and Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences (THM) is strategic and in line with both institutions' internationalisation strategies. THM was ATU’s first German university partner, and vice versa, ATU is THM’s only US partner university. All of THM's other US collaborations are within the scope of the Hesse state partnerships. Objectives: The focus was on developing and testing exchange formats that would increase student mobility at both universities, lead to a more balanced exchange ratio, and promote equal opportunities in international exchange. In the interests of equal opportunities, particular attention was paid to students with "fewer opportunities", who, based on evidence, are less likely to participate in international mobility programs. This goal was to be achieved primarily through blended mobility (BM) programs anchored in the curriculum. Particularly US students are more likely to participate in faculty-led short-term programs. Therefore, one of the sub-goals was to lead the students through the BM to long-term stays. At the faculty level, the goal was to identify research interests and enhance international teaching skills.
